Las Vegas lights, the roar of the crowd, and the heart of amateur boxing. Danny and Phillip stepped into the ring at the Masters Boxing Championship, proving that passion and dedication know no age.
Ready, Set, Fight!
The Masters boxing team’s trip to Las Vegas was a mix of triumph and tenacity. Congratulations to Danny Yu who returned as a champion! And a huge show of respect to Phillip, who fought with incredible heart and gained invaluable experience. These two proved that passion and dedication know no age!
But what is the Masters Boxing Championship?
It’s a 2 day boxing event sponsored by Title Boxing that’s typically held in Las Vegas. It’s only for amateur boxers. If you’re 35 and older, can pass the medical requirements, and never fought professionally this could be your opportunity to get in the big ring!
Fight into Fitness (FIF) coaches traveled with Danny and Phillip to instruct and support in and out of the ring. FIF is not just a place to get a great workout, but can foster boxing goals at all levels. Want to attend this type of event as a participant? FIF can get you prepared!
Let’s take a deeper dive into Danny’s experience at his first Masters.
Unexpected Intensity
Danny fought opponent Joseph V within the 147.01 – 156 lbs weight category and brought home the win. But winning took preparation and being in that ring and in that atmosphere was not the same as being at home doing training.
Attending an event like this for the first time brings out the unknown. You never know what to expect. Danny was surprised by the amount of people and the talent that came to fight. He had heard that the tournament brought in “heavy hitters”, but underestimated what that meant.
But when it was time to fight, Danny was ready. All those weeks training with the coaches and sparring with his fellow teammates prepared him for this moment. When he was in that ring, everything connected for him.
Danny thought to himself, “This is what they want me to do and it makes sense”.
The Commitment Factor
Commit. That’s the word that echoed in Danny’s mind as he prepared for the Masters.
He realized early on that this tournament was not to be taken lightly. “I’ve learned this Masters Tournament isn’t a casual match you’re going to just walk into.”
Danny reflected, “You have to commit to the training, commit to the cardio, commit to yourself.” He acknowledged the challenges of balancing training with life’s demands, especially at this stage in his life, but noted the importance of preparation.
The Thrill of Victory
With all the preparation, commitment and putting it all out in the ring that day, Danny brought home a victory. Even though Danny got the win, he still had to bite down and get it done.
Being in Las Vegas has a thrill of its own, but Danny summed it up saying, “Nothing beats the feeling of getting your hand raised among all those people”.
